One of the key presentation skills that is lacking today is how to present with confidence. OK so why is this so lacking in many business preseters today?
Many people suffer the following reactions when the present: sweaty palms; fidgeting; losing track; mind going blank. And of course, there are many more symptoms that people can suffer from when presenting. And you might be surprised that many now confident presenters also suffered at one time from these same problems.
So what do we need to do to become more confident? How can we improve our presentation skills? What can we do to get into a more positive state?
Lets be clear, there are many different strategies that people use to become more confident. Some will work for you better than others. Some of the more obvious ones are:
Be prepared. This includes knowing your audience and what matters to them. So that you can select the most important material in your presentation that is relevant and will be of interest.
Create a clear outline to your presentation. Always keep it straightforward with a specific beginning, middle and end. And limit your primary ideas to 3 wherever possible. This will help you stay on track and make it easier for your audience to follow you.
Try and speak more slowly. Lots of people speed up when they present ? when the nerves kick in. Take more time with your delivery. The temptation is always there to get it over with. But if you think ’slow down’ when you begin you will actually be more in control and this will give you more confidence and self assurance.
Try to use these three tips the next time you present. And as a result you should be more confident and successful.
